Great plaqce for live music. My friends band played here (Damn Glad www.damnglad.com) and we had a great time. Alot of the places for live music seem a bit trashy but this place is not that. The candle lit tables give this place something a little extra. A good band always helps.

The Mercury Lounge is one of the better places to catch a live show in the East Village (and there are many). Upon walking in, you'll find a long oak candle lit bar and strangers coming together in a small, but cozy space. Past the long velvet curtains, the brick-walled "music room" can intimately fit approximately 250 music lovers. The sound quality is out of this world, and the club's size permits decent views of the stage, even for anyone who cannot find a seat (which are usually arranged in the front, near the stage). Mercury Lounge books both local and touring bands, from alt. rockers to indie/folk. Because of the clubs good reputation, you might also expect to see bands typically found in larger clubs, who appreciate this quiet venue. -about.com
