A gorgeous, fire-engine red interior, soft, romantic lights and understated music invite leisurely sipping. The wine and sake selection ranges from $6 a glass to $32 a bottle, which makes Belly a relative bargain in the increasingly trendy Lower East Side. Fruity sangria and wine and sake cocktails are creative and addictive, particularly the white wine with tangerine juice or with mango and passion fruit. Beer drinkers will not be disappointed with the European choices, and peckish sippers can snack on high-end cheeses, olives, sausage and chocolate.

This beer drinker was highly disappointed by the abysmal "European choices" consisting exclusively of mediocre industrial products from the usual multinational conglomerates, the beer equivalents of Thunderbird and Night Train.
Rating: [6/10]
