Don't be fooled by its name, the interior of Onyx is almost entirely blue. The walls of this spacious West Village night spot are the azure of a moonless night sky, and blue couches adorned with a hypnotic spiral pattern greet bar-goers at every turn. But the friendly atmosphere and warm, please-come-again vibe from the staff make the mood of the place anything but blue. A 20-something crowd packs both the front of the bar and its airy separate lounge room. Scores of sofas and tiny tables that can serve as seating in a pinch mean that no one has to stand for too long. Madonna tunes from the lingerie-on-the-outside era and other '80s artists blare continuously from strategically spaced speakers as hungry patrons partake of such tasty fare as Asian-flavored flank steak and coconut shrimp from Onyx's full menu.
