Unpretentious, easy-access rhythm and blues is hard to come by in New York. Centrally located downtown, this laid-back, groove-inflected dive presents regular sets by R&B, funk and soul outfits (including the Groove House Band), as well as varying bookings on Sundays and Fridays. Sip an inexpensive cocktail and munch on passable Middle Eastern standbys while you get your funk on amidst fellow patrons roped in by the aggressive flyer-hawkers in front of the club. This is great place to kick back and relax. Very diverse crowd, you don't have to deal with rude bouncers like the ones at another lounge on the block that will remain nameless. And the bartenders(hi Valerie!!) don't skimp on the alcohol. Only thing keeping it from getting a 10 is that its a small space and gets crowded very quickly. With great entertainment and service how can anyone stay away.
