From Others

Through an unassuming Chinatown restaurant and up a dimly lit staircase, this slick lounge is an unexpected sanctuary. A red ceiling overlay casts a sultry glow, and kitschy Buddha lights give the only reminder of the knick-knack shops on the streets below. In the back, long, red strips of fabric hang from the factory-high ceiling and wave like flames over the club's showpiece, a huge fish tank sitting atop the communal sinks between the restrooms. Patrons wash up and flirt in Chinese among the graceful swallowtails and shimmering tetras. Giant semi-circle couches lend private space to larger groups without obstructing a view of the scenery. The DJ spins danceable hip-hop and house, and after a few refreshing raspberry mojitos or creamy Key Lime Pie martinis (with crushed graham crackers on the rim), the towering statue of a many-armed god behind the turntable booth seems to dance.
